Alexander Sting has made himself a name upon live sets in the Techno genre. On Tales From The Inside he is showing his faible for Downbeats and Electronica. Make Me A Bird is his first EP on our label.
“Dear God, make me a bird. So I could fly far. Far, far away from here” is a quotation taken from the movie Forrest Gump and serves as a template for the EP’s title song. And indeed, Alexander Sting flies over a beat here. A destroyed, carefully crafted rhythm is floating over a hypnotic musical motif. The track expresses the wish to restart. The wish, to disconnect from the present and let go. In the track’s second part a catchy piano melody is layered over the thick texture of the groove. This seems to be a desire for freedom with a genuine melancholic hue. The new beginning seems to be a remote future.
Silent Waves could be a snap-shot of a cold, cloudy night. The ambience is oppressive and muffled. It is the rhythm that hypnotises the listener – rather than the track’s tonal elements. Fragments of a choir, spheric components – all of this is only backing up the cold, depressed mood. “Only inside there’s a warm place for us” – this is the text line that finishes the EP. These words stand as an example for the track’s theme: in a cold and blunt world warmth and security can only be found in the inside.
